The beach is dominated by stones, so it is important to remember footwear that can be used on the beach as well as in the water. The beaches on this part of Gran Canaria are invaded by locals from the northern part of the island every weekend. They leave the city and dominate the scenery at the beach.

To observe the local families is interesting as they often comprise 10-20 individuals that take a small restaurant, containing a lot of food as well as some moonshine, to the beach. In the kitchen tent, various delicacies are served, and tables, chairs and covers are arranged according to a specific pattern and the sun, while the family head is resting in the shade.

Some tourists believe that these locals are noisy and annoying which might be true to a certain extent; however, you have to remember that they live in a city and need to relax and rewind when they come south to enjoy the sun, ocean and fresh air. In addition, it is part of their culture and some people travel to Gran Canaria to experience this way of life. If you want peace and quiet, you should stay away from the beach at San Agustin on weekends.

Food is many people's hearts close - olso on Gran Canaria - perhaps because your stomach just below. The centers are restaurants like pearls on a string, and offer both local food and food from other parts of the world. There is thus ample opportunity to try different cuisines from, without having to travel half the world. Under the section "Focus", we will describe the different types a little closer a little change, as we have visited them, and thus better able to give a neutral and unbiased description of the individual sites

San Agustin - Gran Canaria is the first ´real´ tourist destination that you come across when leaving the airport "Gando" on Gran Canaria and heading south on the old main road.

The pricey and large villas with a fantastic view are located on the plateau to the right of the main road. Many pensioners from Norway and Sweden reside in San Agustin during the winter or all year long, thereby giving San Agustin a Scandinavian touch.

In San Agustin - Gran Canaria, you will find a Swedish school, a Norwegian hairdresser, the private hospital ´Clinica Rosa´ and German cafes with well-known pastries as well as a variety of shops that offer Nordic specialities.

The large shopping centre is made up of four floors, thus providing you with everything you need - from Italian shoes to the latest fashion trends from Paris as well as well-known jewellers. In addition, you will find kiosks that sell Nordic newspapers, Swedish snuff, German draught beer, local art, crafts and embroideries that have been made in the small villages inland.

Furthermore, San Agustin is packed with bars, restaurants and take-away shops that offer delicacies from the north. Thereby, it is possible to eat Nordic cuisine such as ´Pyt i Panne´ from Sweden, lamb from Norway, a Danish ´Hotdog´ and a German ´Curry Wurst´.

On weekends, San Agustin is a popular destination for locals from Las Palmas and they may take up a large part of the beach, which is 700 metres long. Thus, their presence may be seen as a part of the local culture or, if peace and quiet is preferred, one can simply choose to stay away on Sundays.

When you wander around between the houses in the cowboy town of Sioux City on Gran Canaria, you can almost sense the voice of John Wayne. Sioux City on Gran Canaria is filled with life – both in the streets and in the saloon. You can experience a real bank robbery, and the robbers, who are not killed during the robbery, will be hanged – this takes place several times a day! The saloon has several shows, including one with Indian dancers that are very skilled. You can also experience what happens if you cheat during a game of poker.

Every Friday, you can enjoy a barbecue with free drinks which means you have to leave your revolver at the entrance – along with your horse. However, you have to remember the ´bear´ when the night comes to an end.

Sioux City on Gran Canaria is very dry, so do not wear your finest outfits as your clothes will get very dirty due to all the dust. Sioux City is definitely worth a visit – regardless of age and gender. Remember to keep the gunpowder dry for this excursion.

Different shows in the saloon begin at 11.00 AM

Bus number 45 towards Sioux City leaves from San Agustin and Playa Del Ingles. From Puerto Rico and Faro (Meloneras), you must use bus number 70.

Sioux City is open from 10.00-15.00.  Sioux City is closed on Mondays.
