All beautiful flowers and trees from all over Gran Canaria, gathered in one place.
BBotanical Garden or "Jardin Canario" in Las Palmas was opened in 1952 by the Swedish botanical Eric Ragner Svendsson. The idea was to gather all the island's flower riches in one place, and at the same time do it in a way that made it look like it was their natural habitat.
Every time a new plant or flower was moved to the garden, its space was chosen very carefully, so it fit into the current area, according to colors, size streams and much more, so it always looks natural.
The garden is divided into 2 departments, one high and one situated lower. If you choose a trip in the high part, you must be good glimt and they advise against bringing children into this part as there are very narrow trails, and there are very far down. There is also warning signs several places in this section. In the low part there are a lot of smaller lakes and streams, and if you are a little aware, you can spot different life in the water, which is an extra experience to gain from your visit.
It is not possible to buy food or drink, but you can bring something along with if you wish, just do not throw waste in the garden, either take it with you or use the waste baskets found in several places.
On June 23, 1973, the founder of the garden ,unfortunately died in a traffic accident, just in front of the garden he had donated his heart to, so therefore it was decided they would bury him there , so that the gardeners of the garden could keep the grave nice with the many beautiful flowers it was surrounded by.
In addition to the many visitors, the garden is also used for experiments and teaching so that you can follow the development of the many flowers and trees, while becoming aware of the changes that happen.
