Finca Cordal located on the coast of Juan Grande, is one of the most beautiful and best kept areas on the south coast. Finca Cordal is a large area, with their own church, which is simple but still very beautiful. All wood on the inside of the church is Canarian pine tree.
Both the main altar and the 2 side altars are of great historical value, and behind the main altar hangs the many costumes that the priests used for the various ecclesiastical acts, and still use when the right feast fits. There are different exhibitions in smaller spaces, all describing part of everyday life and the island's history right from the start.
They also have banqueting rooms, which are widely used by the locals for all kinds of parties.
The place also has a very beautiful and well-tended garden where you can walk around and enjoy the many trees, shrubs and flowers.
The buildings are all in old Canarian style, including the typical balconies of wood. Finca Cordal has its own wine production, which naturally you will have the opportunity to taste, and take home with you.
When we visited the place, what was most eye-catching was how clean and tidy there was. No waste anywhere, neither inside nor outside, and there were no greasy fingers or noses on the many glass fittings. It was a real pleasure to walk around in there, I'm sure we'll be there again.
Finca Cordial is located just off the coastal road, on the right, when you drive from San Agustin and towards Vecindario. It is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:30
Tomato crops both outside and inside Gran Canaria.
Museum about the hard work by the tomato growers.
Long before the first tourists came to Gran Canaria, the inhabitants made a living in completely different way, cultivating tomatoes.
In fact, 1/3 of the island was planted with tomato plants, and today, in many places, you see remains of the terraces they made to guide the water to the plants. It was really hard work from the sun rose and until it got dark.
This meant that many families lived on the plantations, they adapted themselves to livimg with only the most necessary things, the wisest taught the children to read and write when they were finished helping in the field, but all in all, everyone was pleased, you did not have other options.
In Vecindario, a museum has been made showing how they worked and lived at that time. It is located not far from the shopping center "Atlantico" It's really worth a visit as it's done in such a way that you really get a good insight into how their everyday life was.
The exhibition consists of a space of 2 halls of a total of 4000 m2 and there are good explanations in both Spanish and English. A smaller area has also been created in the open air, so it is as natural as it can possibly be.
Just a sidebar. You know many ugly words that you send to people you definitely do not like. On the island there are obviously ugly words, but to call a person for a "Tomatero" (Tomato worker), it doesn’t get any worse than that and it's true even to this day .
The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30 AM to 2.30 PM and the address is: Isla de la Graciosa, 33 - 35110 Vecindario
Salinas de Tenefe, is an area down the coast at Vecindario, called "Pozo Izquierdo", where salt has been recovered since the early 1800's.
Salt is still being extracted from the sea water using the old methods, and you can come down and see if you want to. It is written that there is a museum, and that’s not completely true, but ok, you can see how it happens.
There are 20,000 m2 of saltwater basins, and as the water evaporates, yes there is only salt left, also called the white gold. On April 26, 2005, the area was declared as a special cultural heritage, and it certainly helped to raise the price of the salt they make.

Most of it is sold to the mainland, but if you want to buy one kilo you have to pay about 15 euros for that, and so part of it is still water, as it's far from dry yet.
You can, as mentioned, come down and see the area, but if you want a tour of the museum you must book a time since it is not open at any particular time. The jewel in the crown
The jewel in the crown is Playa de las Canteras, the pearl the city doesn’t keep hidden away. It is a long strip of sand that stretches for miles along the bay, a place of special charm you will find only 3 or 4 blocks along from the cruise terminal.
Locals keep saying Las Canteras is one of the nation’s best urban beaches. And they have every reason to believe it. This is a beach blessed with fine weather practically all year round. A getaway within the capital city, a place where the hands of time seem to have stopped. A type of beach-style Central Park, where sports can be played any day of the week. Don’t forget your swimming clothes and your surf board!
But we must warn you: if your intention is to stay for several days, on Wednesday forget about finding the beach you saw on Monday, it just cannot be done.
Las Canteras is known by all as the Changing Beach. It will never be the place you saw on previous days. This is one of its special traits: it’s always the same place, but appears different all the time.
There you have it. The treasure of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria lies hidden only 5 minutes off the cruise pier. Do not expect further clues. Should you wish to admire the jewel in the city’s crown, just walk four blocks. Follow anyone whistling as they walk with a towel, parasol, or surf board on their shoulders.
